Mosman Park Medical Researcher Scores a Century

There's not a cricket pitch in sight, but Mosman Park medical researcher Lin Fritschi is celebrating a century.

Associate Professor Fritschi is the newest addition to the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research's (WAIMR) "100 Club" - which honours those staff who have succeeded in publishing more than 100 peer-reviewed papers.

A current National Health & Medical Research Council Senior Research Fellow, Associate Professor Fritschi recently reached the milestone with a publication in Cancer Causes and Control.

Starting the scoring in 1992 with her first publication, Professor Fritschi has knocked 87 of her century in national and international journals in the past eight years.

She has also had three papers appear in the high-impact American Journal of Epidemiology, the field's leading journal.

"Many of these publications are linked to cancer, occupation and the occupational causes of cancer, covering everything from the causes of cancer to early detection and treatment patterns," said Associate Professor Fritschi.

"As well, some others focus on respiratory disease, improving epidemiological studies and also strategies to enhance cancer registries."

WAIMR Director Professor Peter Klinken congratulated Associate Professor Fritschi on her achievement.

"This sort of milestone takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication and acts as a wonderful example to the next generation of scientists; we are extremely pleased to have Lin on the WAIMR team," he said.

Associate Professor Fritschi's milestone comes ahead of Brilliant Science Month which takes place throughout March and focuses on WA's ability to become world leaders in science and technology.

It also comes during WAIMR's 10th anniversary year. WAIMR is a leader in research into the genetic causes of adult diseases including leukaemia, breast, prostate cancer, diabetes and nerve and muscle disorders.
